The 28-year-old Dean was originally drafted by the Marlins in 2012 and eventually made his MLB debut with them in 2018. After 98 video games with the Fish in 2018 and 2019, he was traded to the Cardinals and enjoyed 25 video games for them a couple of seasons prior. He’s yet to impress in his restricted MLB movement, having hit .225/.282/.391 for an 80 wRC+. Nonetheless, his triple-A efficiency is far more spectacular, as Dean has achieved .322/.394/.535 in elements from three seasons.
The Giants simply called Dean out of waivers in November, meaning he could likely leave the group without ever qualifying for the team. Given his Triple-A track record, youth and 12 months left, he could be claimed in the coming days by a side looking to add inexpensive outfield depth.
