Bethesda, which is owned by Microsoft, has announced that it will shut down its Bethesda.net launcher later this year. With the Bethesda.net launcher, the company made it possible for PC gamers to buy and play game titles. The transfer process starts in April and lasts until May. Per the announcement, beginning in April, Bethesda.net users will need to migrate their games, wallets, and earned items to Steam. The migration process is ongoing at this time and once all the details are finalized, Bethesda will be providing all of its users with detailed instructions on how to transfer their games and related items to Steam. Once the transfer has started, all saved files will also be transferred, with some exceptions such as Wolfenstein: Youngblood where you may need to transfer the files manually. The process for this will also be announced later. Also Read – All Windows 11 Versions Will Require Internet Connection Soon: Check How This Affects You
Many of the games and services still rely on an official Bethesda.net account, which allows players access to game modes, in-game cosmetics, and access to exclusive news and updates. Once the broadcast begins, players will no longer be able to access games in the Bethesda Launcher. Note that after the launcher shuts down, players do not lose access to the game library, only the ability to play it.
All virtual currency balances, Bethesda.net wallet, and add-ons such as DLCs are automatically transferred.
After the transfer, in order to play live service games like Fallout 76, players will still need to use their existing Bethesda account. Each of your Bethesda.net friends will also be streamed directly. This means all of your Rage 2, DOOM Eternal, Fallout 76, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Deathloop, and The Elder Scrolls: Legends friends lists will remain intact even after the transfer.
Elder Scrolls Online will remain unaffected by this change. This development only affects PC players and not console players.
