To celebrate the ladies historical past Month, WSLAM showcases very different girls in their free time who are pushing boundaries, elevating the sport and working hard to empower others. It’s June and Brianna Turner is hovering near the elbow, lurking behind the full protection of the LA Sparks. Towards the end of the third quarter, teammate Skylar Diggins-Smith lifts the ball in the air at a slight angle as it clacks off the appropriate side of the rim and bounces over to the left. Turner is now inside the suit behind three defenders, and as the ball bounces back to the left side of the rim, she lunges and leaps to scoop it over the guard and into the basket. The game she makes isn’t that fancy, a putback. One thing she did notice, however, was Diggins-Smith’s off-balance layup. And because of her lightning fast focus, she started moving. For Turner, movement is productive and pragmatic. It’s not because she’s aware she should entertain or achieve, because she cares about the development of her people and understands how her skills and zeal can help. Take the two-time WNBA All-Defensive First Staff standout off the seed list and that power remains. She’s undoubtedly one of the most outspoken voices within the WNBA, but she’s also probably the most personal. Turner gets on the move and stands up for equality unlike her friends, along with Lynx level guard Layshia Clarendon or Sparks Ahead Nneka Ogwumike. She’s not usually the participant with the microphone or the face that gets seen the most. However, by the age of 25, she has gained a distinct popularity that is just as important within the framework of W’s advocacy. “So I’m scrolling all the time, seeing stuff all the time, studying new stuff all the time,” Turner tells WSLAM. “So yes, I just share my thoughts on Twitter and see politicians and politics. So if I see a bill that I don’t like, I think that bill is wacky or just highlights entirely different points or things that I like or don’t like.” Turner’s presence on Twitter has earned her definite popularity as a younger activist who speaks or tweets about her personal phrases and engages productively rather than trying to win an argument. For Turner, it’s not about ethical superiority or the clout that comes with it, if just a little bit about simply making the world around them as knowledgeable as it is. It’s a technique she believes has a direct route to constructive change. Turner garnered national attention nearly two years ago for the tragic murders of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd when she spoke about how police brutality in America is affecting her. Raised by a mother and father who had careers as law enforcement officers, she needed the network world around her to try and see the problem of policing in America through a slightly grayer lens than pure blacks or whites. This or that. Right or deceptive. I am an only child raised by two black law enforcement officers (age 56+ mixed). I’ve had a few situations where a guardian needed to immediately depart from responsibility calls. But at the same time, conversations about police brutality didn’t stop. Haven’t stopped countless conversations about… — Brianna Turner (@_Breezy_Briii) May 31, 2020 Turner knows why nuanced dialogue struggles in a world and on a platform where it’s typically out of place. Her key to maintaining composure while being a compassionate voice in the path of progress is how ready she is before she releases another tweet into the world. She also understands that not everyone she deals with online is as diligent as she is. “I try to present really accurate information in my views and I’m always very polite and never come across as offensive,” she says. “I usually attack properly, it’s broadly similar to Texas senators. Aside from that though, I try to be polite in my engagement so people can see that I’m from a very good place. Whether she’s playing for Phoenix Mercury in the US or in Italy during the off-season for Bologna, Turner is online regularly. She scours the BBC website every day and uses Twitter for information and access to information. “I want to know what’s related to what’s happening?” She says. “I look at what’s trending on Twitter. I’m opening my Apple Information app, what’s happening now?” At the time of her tweet about her mom and dad almost two years ago, she had about 6,000 followers and now she has almost 12K. Communities of discourse inside and outside the sports world have found that they resonate with the way Turner expresses himself. They admire their seriousness and diligence. Where did all this come from? When we met her not long ago, Mercury found it difficult to provide an actual origin story, but Turner was always in the sociology around her. At the College of Notre Dame, the will to deal with social justice and socio-political aspects has prevailed through her student work as a graphic designer with almost a minor in gender research. One of her inventive initiatives was a depiction of the epidemic of gun violence in America. She used forged shapes and water guns to create a chunk that featured a shattered American flag and illustrated how gun violence has impacted America. Long before her Twitter account was as well known as it is today, she recalls tweeting about how Notre Dame, a major Catholic university, stood in the middle of one of Indiana’s poorest cities. Her friends asked why she was so important to their alma mater, but her response was, “I’m just conscious.” Since her viral tweets about her personal experience with mom and dad in enforcement and the 2020 Wubble season, Turner began hearing from organizations that recognized what she was doing and how she could make a big difference. One group she specifically advocates for is transgender youth. She started exploring transpoints during her freshman year and
Solving the Tricky Challenges of Robotic Pizza-Making
A new technique could allow a robot to manipulate squishy objects like pizza dough or soft materials like clothing. Imagine a pizza maker working with a ball of dough. She could use a spatula to lift the dough onto a cutting board, then use a rolling pin to flatten it into a circle. just right? Not when that pizza maker is a robot. Working with a deformable object like dough is difficult for a robot because the shape of the dough can change in many ways that are difficult to represent with an equation. Also, creating a new shape from this dough requires multiple steps and the use of different tools. It is particularly difficult for a robot to learn a manipulation task with a long sequence of steps – where there are many choices – since learning is often done through trial and error. researchers at[{” attribute=””>MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of California at San Diego, have come up with a better way. They created a framework for a robotic manipulation system that uses a two-stage learning process, which could enable a robot to perform complex dough-manipulation tasks over a long timeframe. A “teacher” algorithm solves each step the robot must take to complete the task. Then, it trains a “student” machine-learning model that learns abstract ideas about when and how to execute each skill it needs during the task, like using a rolling pin. With this knowledge, the system reasons about how to execute the skills to complete the entire task. The researchers show that this method, which they call DiffSkill, can perform complex manipulation tasks in simulations, like cutting and spreading dough, or gathering pieces of dough from around a cutting board, while outperforming other machine-learning methods. Researchers from MIT and elsewhere have created a framework that could enable a robot to effectively complete complex manipulation tasks with deformable objects, like dough or cloth, that require many tools and take a long time to complete. Credit: Images courtesy of the researchers Beyond pizza-making, this method could be applied in other settings where a robot needs to manipulate deformable objects, such as a caregiving robot that feeds, bathes, or dresses someone elderly or with motor impairments. “This method is closer to how we as humans plan our actions. When a human does a long-horizon task, we are not writing down all the details. We have a higher-level planner that roughly tells us what the stages are and some of the intermediate goals we need to achieve along the way, and then we execute them,” says Yunzhu Li, a graduate student in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), and author of a paper presenting DiffSkill. Li’s co-authors include lead author Xingyu Lin, a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU); Zhiao Huang, a graduate student at the University of California at San Diego; Joshua B. Tenenbaum, the Paul E. Newton Career Development Professor of Cognitive Science and Computation in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT and a member of CSAIL; David Held, an assistant professor at CMU; and senior author Chuang Gan, a research scientist at the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab. The research will be presented at the International Conference on Learning Representations. Student and teacher The “teacher” in the DiffSkill framework is a trajectory optimization algorithm that can solve short-horizon tasks, where an object’s initial state and target location are close together. The trajectory optimizer works in a simulator that models the physics of the real world (known as a differentiable physics simulator, which puts the “Diff” in “DiffSkill”). The “teacher” algorithm uses the information in the simulator to learn how the dough must move at each stage, one at a time, and then outputs those trajectories. Then the “student” neural network learns to imitate the actions of the teacher. As inputs, it uses two camera images, one showing the dough in its current state and another showing the dough at the end of the task. The neural network generates a high-level plan to determine how to link different skills to reach the goal. It then generates specific, short-horizon trajectories for each skill and sends commands directly to the tools. The researchers used this technique to experiment with three different simulated dough-manipulation tasks. In one task, the robot uses a spatula to lift dough onto a cutting board then uses a rolling pin to flatten it. In another, the robot uses a gripper to gather dough from all over the counter, places it on a spatula, and transfers it to a cutting board. In the third task, the robot cuts a pile of dough in half using a knife and then uses a gripper to transport each piece to different locations. Researchers developed a robotic manipulation system can perform complex dough manipulation tasks with tools in simulations, like gathering dough and placing it onto a cutting board (left), cutting a piece of dough in half and separating the halves (center), and lifting dough onto a cutting board then flattening it with a rolling pin (right). Their technique is able to perform these tasks successfully, while other machine learning methods fail. Credit: MIT A cut above the rest DiffSkill was able to outperform popular techniques that rely on reinforcement learning, where a robot learns a task through trial and error. In fact, DiffSkill was the only method that was able to successfully complete all three dough manipulation tasks. Interestingly, the researchers found that the “student” neural network was even able to outperform the “teacher” algorithm, Lin says. “Our framework provides a novel way for robots to acquire new skills. These skills can then be chained to solve more complex tasks which are beyond the capability of previous robot systems,” says Lin. Because their method focuses on controlling the tools (spatula, knife, rolling pin, etc.) it could be applied to different robots, but only if they use the specific tools the researchers defined. In the future, they plan to integrate the shape

Boosting Quantum Computing Performance Through Noise Mitigation
Artist’s conception of a quantum circuit. Making quantum circuits more robust Researchers have developed a technique for making it[{” attribute=””>quantum computing more resilient to noise, which boosts performance. Quantum computing continues to advance at a rapid pace, but one challenge that holds the field back is mitigating the noise that plagues quantum machines. This leads to much higher error rates compared to classical computers. This noise is often caused by imperfect control signals, interference from the environment, and unwanted interactions between qubits, which are the building blocks of a quantum computer. Performing computations on a quantum computer involves a “quantum circuit,” which is a series of operations called quantum gates. These quantum gates, which are mapped to the individual qubits, change the quantum states of certain qubits, which then perform the calculations to solve a problem. But quantum gates introduce noise, which can hamper a quantum machine’s performance. Researchers at MIT and elsewhere are working to overcome this problem by developing a technique that makes the quantum circuit itself resilient to noise. (Specifically, these are “parameterized” quantum circuits that contain adjustable quantum gates.) The team created a framework that can identify the most robust quantum circuit for a particular computing task and generate a mapping pattern that is tailored to the qubits of a targeted quantum device. Researchers have developed a technique for making quantum computing more resilient to noise, which boosts performance. Credit: Christine Daniloff, MIT Their framework, called QuantumNAS (noise adaptive search), is much less computationally intensive than other search methods and can identify quantum circuits that improve the accuracy of machine learning and quantum chemistry tasks. When the researchers used their technique to identify quantum circuits for real quantum devices, their circuits outperformed those generated using other methods. “The key idea here is that, without this technique, we have to sample each individual quantum circuit architecture and mapping scenario in the design space, train them, evaluate them, and if it is not good we have to throw it away and start over. But using this method, we can obtain many different circuits and mapping strategies at once with no need for many times of training,” says Song Han, an associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and senior author of the paper. Joining Han on the paper are lead author Hanrui Wang and Yujun Lin, both EECS graduate students; Yongshan Ding, an assistant professor of computer science at Yale University; David Z. Pan, the Silicon Laboratories Endowed Chair in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, and UT Austin grad student Jiaqi Gu; Fred Chong, the Seymour Goodman Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago; and Zirui Li, an undergraduate student at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The research will be presented at the IEEE International Symposium on High-Performance Computer Architecture. Many design choices Constructing a parameterized quantum circuit involves selecting a number of quantum gates, which are physical operations the qubits will perform. This is no easy task, since there are many types of gates to choose from. A circuit can also have any number of gates, and the positions of those gates — which physical qubits they map to — can vary. “With so many different choices, the design space is extremely large. The challenge is how to design a good circuit architecture. With QuantumNAS, we want to design that architecture so it can be very robust to noise,” says Wang. The researchers focused on variational quantum circuits, which use quantum gates with trainable parameters that can learn a machine learning or quantum chemistry task. To design a variational quantum circuit, typically a researcher must either hand-design the circuit or use rule-based methods to design the circuit for a particular task, and then try to find the ideal set of parameters for each quantum gate through an optimization process. In the naïve search method, in which possible circuits are evaluated individually, the parameters for each candidate quantum circuit must be trained, which results in a massive computational overhead. But the researcher also must identify the ideal number of parameters and the circuit architecture in the first place. In classical neural networks, including more parameters often increases the model’s accuracy. But in variational quantum computing, more parameters require more quantum gates, which introduce more noise. With QuantumNAS, the researchers seek to reduce the overall search and training cost while identifying the quantum circuit that contains the ideal number of parameters and appropriate architecture to maximize accuracy and minimize noise. Building a “SuperCircuit” To do that, they first design a “SuperCircuit,” which contains all the possible parameterized quantum gates in the design space. That SuperCircuit will be used to generate smaller quantum circuits that can be tested. They train the SuperCircuit once, and then because all other candidate circuits in the design space are subsets of the SuperCircuit, they inherit corresponding parameters that have already been trained. This reduces the computational overhead of the process. Once the SuperCircuit has been trained, they use it to search for circuit architectures that meet a targeted objective, in this case high robustness to noise. The process involves searching for quantum circuits and qubit mappings at the same time using what is known as an evolutionary search algorithm. This algorithm generates some quantum circuit and qubit mapping candidates, then evaluates their accuracy with a noise model or on a real machine. The results are fed back to the algorithm, which selects the best performing parts and uses them to start the process again until it finds the ideal candidates. “We know that different qubits have different properties and gate error rates. Since we’re only using a subset of the qubits, why don’t we use the most reliable ones? We can do this through co-search of the architecture and qubit mapping,” Wang explains. Once the researchers have arrived at the best quantum circuit, they train its parameters and perform quantum gate pruning by removing any quantum gates that have
At this time’s rugby headlines as Wales set for report crowd and England candidate opens door to interchange Eddie Jones
Below are the latest rugby headlines for Thursday 30th March. Wales applies for Report Crowd Wales are hoping to land a crowd at Cardiff Arms Park this Saturday as they attempt to secure two Six Nations wins of two against Scotland (4.45pm kick-off). Every league game in the opening round drew a crowd over the weekend and this Saturday marks the fixture’s first home game in Wales. Ioan Cunningham’s side of Wales go into the game full of vigor after a shock comeback win over Eire last Saturday in Dublin by 27-19. They face a Scottish side who recently qualified for the World Cup and will look to do better than their 57-5 loss to reigning champions England would suggest. More than 3,000 tickets have already been purchased for Wales’ second round. The Welsh report for a stand-alone worldwide girls’ rugby match is believed to be their 2017 clash against England, which drew 4,113 people. Wales captain Siwan Lillicrap said: “Come help rugby, Wales rugby because that’s what it’s about. It’s a paragon of rugby and we’re a national squad and you might even be our sixteenth player. I’m sure Scotland will weigh us down but we’re looking forward to being home and having a home crowd. It comes amid confirmation that the England Girls’ Six Nations showdown in the finals in France was bought out more than a month early. The ultimate game of the 2022 championship will be played at the Stade Jean Dauger in Bayonne on Saturday 30 April and should determine the title winner. The stadium seats 10,600 spectators for Saturday’s super game, which comes after Wales v Italy at Cardiff Arms Park (midday kick-off) and before Ireland v Scotland (starts at 8pm). In the round, France defeated Italy 39–6 in Grenoble in front of a crowd of 14,000, Eire staged a victorious Wales on the RDS in front of a crowd of 6,113 to provide viewers coverage for a six nations standalone game for girls in Ireland and Scotland, with champions England ahead of three .988 followers in Edinburgh. Tickets for Tik Tok Girls’ House Six Nations matches in Wales are on sale now and cost £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16. Crunch Time is coming for Welsh groups Dwayne Peel says his Scarlets are on a huge break from the season as they play five consecutive Welsh derbies within the United Rugby Championship. They face back-to-back video games against Cardiff and the Dragons before the trip to the Ospreys, with a home game against the Stormers rounding out their marketing campaign. “The video game course that follows is big in terms of qualifying for Europe and our ambitions to reach the playoffs,” said head coach Peel. “To do that, we should win almost all of the remaining video games. It’s good to be back among the Welsh boys this week. There’s a huge whirlwind in coaching and everyone seems to be pushing these derbies. Everything can be played during this break. It’s exciting to have the video games back-to-back, and that’s going to be a problem.” The coach opens the door to become the boss of New England Exeter manager Rob Baxter has shown his curiosity about becoming England head coach for the first time. Baxter has previously been associated with the function but frequently distances himself from such a hypothesis. However, with the RFU publicly stating that they need an Englishman for Eddie Jones’ success, Baxter is open to talks. However, he needs information on what type of role the RFU is looking for, whether that is a director of rugby coaching under him or an additional hands-on head coach. Baxter said: “I’d be happy to chat about what the feature is, how they see it and what their plans and ambitions are. There is an oddity in this, for obvious reasons. “But I’ll be honest with you, we don’t really know what the job is. That’s one of the many challenges of RFU – to actually determine. Until you realize what it is, saying sure or no to something is tedious. At the same time, I’m not looking for another job! I am very happy here.” study extra Related Articles study extra Related Articles

How to keep EV battery safe
Electric vehicles may be the future of mobility in India, but the race to be first appears to be taking a heavy toll on buyers, at least some unlucky ones. Four fire incidents have been reported in different states of India in the past few days. This sudden increase in fire accidents coincides with the approach of the summer season. Also Read – Watch: Pure EV Electric Scooter Catches Fire in Chennai While EV fires have been reported in recent years, they are only now being highlighted as more adoption and popular brands enter the segment. Ola Electric is a brand that has generated tremendous traction for their first Ola S1 series electric scooter. The first incident reported last week also involved an Ola scooter. The incident happened in Pune and the explosion happened right on the street while the scooter was just parked. Also Read – Is It Really Safe to Buy Electric Scooters? Another incident that gave us an indication of the seriousness of the problem was an incident in Vellore. The fire was reportedly caused by an Okinawa Autotech electric vehicle or a surrounding charger. The fire resulted in the deaths of a father-daughter duo. Two other incidents, one in Trichy and the other in Chennai, brought the entire electric vehicle industry under the microscope. The government has also ordered an investigation into the fire incidents, according to a report by CNBC-TV18. Also Read – Tesla Shuts Factory in China Amid Spread of Covid: Report Why are so many electric scooters suddenly exploding? Electric vehicles are powered by lithium-ion batteries. This is the same power source that powers smartphones, and we’re no strangers to smartphones exploding. The size and scale of the explosions and fire are obviously smaller than what we see with electric scooters. Another factor separating the two is exposure. While smartphones mostly see the inside of your pockets or bags, electric vehicles are almost constantly exposed to the sun, rain, and dirt. You can’t always keep it cool and dry. Although most OEMs provide an IP rating for their batteries, they may not be able to account for the intense Indian summer heat. Maxson Lewis, MD and CEO of Magenta said that companies cannot copy and paste international solutions in India. He pointed out the 4 main reasons for such incidents: heat, humidity, harmonics and people. What can be done to avert such dangerous situations? Electric scooters are experiencing a spending spree in India. Brands like Ola Electric are opening limited-time buying windows due to massive demand. Other brands are trying to expand their presence in the country but are limited due to the supply chain. The benefits of electric scooters, bikes and cars definitely outweigh the risks for many buyers. Fuel prices have surpassed the 100 rupee mark in all four major cities and further price increases are expected in the future. Daily running costs are much higher than they used to be. Electric vehicles offer a viable solution to this problem, and we shouldn’t expect sales to drop anytime soon. But we can take some steps on our part to be careful when dealing with batteries and electric vehicles. This not only avoids fires and explosions, but also ensures a better range and longer battery charging cycles. Here are some of the hints suggested by Mayank Jain, Director, Crayon Motors: -Only OEM specified charger allowed to be used for a specific battery type. Do not replace and use non-original charger.– Store batteries at room temperature.– Please do not charge the batteries within 1 hour after use. It is recommended to let the batteries cool down for a while before charging.-If you find that the battery case is damaged or water has entered, immediately isolate it, store it separately and inform your dealer.– The battery and charger should be stored in a clean, dry and ventilated place, avoid contact with corrosive substances, keep away from fire and heat sources (not less than 2 meters), keep away from flammable substances, and separate the charger from the battery.-Ensure your lead-acid batteries are changed regularly (3 month intervals) Once the battery has approximately 30% of the total charge, charge the battery to prolong its life. you might be interested Android OS, v2.3.4 (Gingerbread) 600MHz ARM 11 processor, Adreno 200 GPU, Qualcomm MSM7227-1 chipset 3.15MP, 2048×1536 pixels
